Field Work Term

Since 2009, Literature students have completed Field Work Terms at the Academy of American Poets, the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers, Ampersand Books, Asheville Poetry Review, BOMB Magazine, Bowery Poetry Club, City Lights Bookstore, Copper Canyon Press, Esopus Magazine, Grub Street, HarperCollins, Hachette, The Hudson Review, Knopf, MAKE Magazine, Manoa, McSweeney’s, The New Criterion, New Directions, Nuyorican Poets Cafe, Paper Magazine, The Paris Review, Parnassus: Poetry in Review, PEN American Center, Poets’ House, Poetry Flash, Printed Matter, Rolling Stone, Roof Books, Salamander, San Francisco Center for the Book, Scholastic Young Adults & Writers, Soft Skull, Tin House, Vanity Fair, Vintage, and 826 Valencia, in addition to a variety of literary agencies, film production studios, and various advocacy groups and nonprofits.

Many of our students also elect to spend one FWT doing an independent study. While most of these are related to the completion of senior projects, others have been undertaken to facilitate time to travel and write creatively abroad (in Hungary and Israel, for instance), and to explore literary topics not covered in coursework.
